What is Breast Revision?

Breast Revision, or breast implant replacement, commonly involves the removal and/or replacement of saline or silicone breast implants. It is performed to change the size or type of your implant and to correct any complications from your breast augmentation.

Common Reasons for Breast Revision

Breast Revision surgery is used in cases of:

  • Implants that show leakage
  • Tightening of scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture)
  • Changes in breast tissue as a result of weight fluctuation or skin stretching
  • Changes in a patient’s aesthetic preferences

To find out if breast revision surgery is an option for you, visit Dr. Falcon at our Natrona Heights office, which is located 20 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh and 14 miles from Apollo.

Who is a Candidate for Breast Revision?

Candidates for breast revision have previously had a breast augmentation and are now either dissatisfied with their results or facing complications with their implants such as leaks or capsular contracture. Even in the absence of complications, patients can choose breast revision to exchange their implants for a preferred size or shape, or may choose to remove their implants altogether. Before surgery, you should be generally healthy aside from complications with your breast implants. During a consultation, Dr. Falcon will review your health history, examine your breasts, and, if necessary, help you choose new breast implants that better suit your needs.

“The surgery center nurses were so nice. They answered all my questions and helped me prepare for the big day. They even called me the next day just to check in on me.”

What is Recovery Like After Breast Revision?

Breast revision recovery is overall similar to an initial breast augmentation, though most patients find that the healing process is faster and easier than their first procedure. Bandages and dressings will cover any incisions, but you may not require a surgical bra. In some cases, drains will be put in place to prevent fluid from accumulating. After your surgery, you can take pain medication as prescribed to stay comfortable. Most patients need about a week away from their normal routines to rest and recover. It’s also important to avoid lifting heavy objects or returning to strenuous activities and exercise routines until Dr. Falcon says that you have healed enough to do so. For most patients, this process is completed sooner than their initial breast augmentation healing period.
