What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that can help to improve the visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck. A neck lift can help to diminish excess fat and skin relaxation in the lower face that creates the appearance of jowls, loose neck skin, and muscle banding in the neck. When the neck area doesn’t match the upper facial appearance, a neck lift can help to correct the imbalance. For patients in the Leechburg and Fox Chapel area, Dr. Falcon’s Natrona Heights office is the best surgeon for skin tightening around the neck.
Who is a Candidate for a Neck Lift?
Patients who have loose skin, banding, or wrinkles and lines on their neck. They may also have jowls or a double chin but are either not concerned about signs of aging on the face or choose to combine a facelift with a neck lift for more complete facial rejuvenation. Neck lift candidates should be healthy overall and nonsmokers. During a consultation, Dr. Falcon will examine the neck area, evaluate your health history, and determine whether you are a good candidate for a neck lift. In some cases, he may recommend pairing your neck lift with another procedure to create an overall more youthful look.
“I had minimal scarring on face after surgery, I was very pleased with my results.”
What is Recovery Like After a Neck Lift?
After your neck lift, you can return home the same day but should have a friend or family member drive you home and care for you in the early stages of the healing process. Discomfort, swelling, redness, or bruising are all normal symptoms after a neck lift. Discomfort can be managed by taking pain medication as prescribed by Dr. Falcon. In most cases, you may also be asked to wear a compression garment or have tight bandages in place to reduce swelling. As you heal, it is important to keep your head elevated, including when you sleep. Most patients require up to two weeks of downtime before returning to work or other routines after their neck lift. Dr. Falcon will monitor your healing and let you know when you can safely return to other activities, including more strenuous activity like your exercise routine.
