What are Warts?

Warts are growths on the skin which are not cancerous. They can appear on many parts of the body and are often skin-colored, but they can be dark, smooth and flat. The virus that causes warts is contagious and they can be spread by something that touched the wart or by contact with the wart.

Not all warts will require treatment by a doctor or other medical professional. Some signs you should see a doctor include warts located on a sensitive part of the body (such as the face), signs of infection, pain, or changes in the wart’s color, size, or texture. to find out your best treatment option for warts, visit Dr. Falcon at our Natrona Heights office, which is located 15 miles from Fox Chapel and 17 miles from Aspinwall.

How are Warts Removed?

Doctors like Dr. Falcon can remove a wart through cryotherapy or surgery. A cryotherapy procedure involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. This causes a blister to form under and around the wart, eventually forcing it to fall away from the skin.

Surgical removal is also possible. Dr. Falcon will use a scalpel or other surgical tool to carefully cut away the wart after numbing the area with a local anesthetic.

“Best doctor best staff they are all wonderful and treat you with the upmost respect. Dr. Falcon knows what he's doing and does a fantastic job. I would never go anywhere else and highly recommend Dr. Falcon and his staff to anyone!”

Healing After Wart Removal

After having a wart removed, you will have a small wound at the treatment site. This typically should not require any stitches and can be treated like any other small injury. Dr. Falcon can give you specific directions for helping incisions heal with minimal scarring and keeping the area clean to prevent infection or other issues. Both cryotherapy and surgical wart removal are outpatient procedures that require no downtime, meaning you can immediately return to your normal routine after having your wart removed.
